Armonia is the main bolivian NGO for birds conservation. It manages its own protected areas and supports national and sub-national protected areas.
Armonía, created in 1996, works in Bolivia mainly on bird conservation. The association is involved in the fight against macaw poaching through education. It helps local communities to diversify their income and to understand that protecting endangered species opens up developement opportunities. The NGO involved local indigenous communities in the creation of a lodge designed to welcome international ornithologists and protect the most important breeding site of the red-fronted macaw. It also runs a long-term nesting box program, which has helped increasing the population of blue-throated macaws, a critically endangered species according to IUCN.
We support Armonía in the organization of a Futsal championship led by local rangers on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the creation of the El Palmar protected Area. This tournament, aimed at men and women from 10 communities in the Suyu Yampara culture, is being organized for the first time to raise awarness about red-fronted macaw conservation. Play for Nature’s support helps finance futsal uniforms, the purchase of championship equipment, and also logistics and transport.
