Bio Conservation Society

Bio Conservation Society is a Sri Lankan association dedicated to protecting sea turtles and their habitat, and raising awareness in local communities.

Bio Conservation Society

Since 2013, Bio Conservation Society has been working for the conservation of sea turtles, species classified as endangered or vulnerable, and the protection of their marine habitats in Sri Lanka. The association works closely with local fishing communities to promote sustainable practices and raise awareness of the importance of marine ecosystems. In particular, it fights to protect turtle nests on the beaches of the Kalpitiya peninsula and increase the chances of survival of laid eggs. This protection also involves environmental awareness and education programs in the peninsula’s villages.

Our support

Play for Nature supports Bio Conservation Society in organizing a cricket tournament to raise awareness in local communities about the conservation of sea turtles and their habitat. The project involves 12 teams and 19 matches in collaboration with local sports clubs. Some 144 participants will be directly involved, while 3,000 people will be reached directly and 7,000 indirectly.

Play for Nature helps finance the project teams, tournament logistics, awareness-raising materials and prizes for the winners.

This initiative aims to create a lasting impact by strengthening partnerships with local sports clubs and actively involving communities in the preservation of marine ecosystems.
