BIOSFERA

Biosfera is an association that has been working on marine life and coastal ecosystems conservation in Cape Verde since 2006.

BIOSFERA

Biosfera aims to ensure the conservation of coastal and marine species such as turtles, birds, sharks, reptiles,… To achieve this, the association works directly in the field to study the ecology of these species and their habitats, and thus reinforce the protection and monitoring of biodiversity.

The association also carries out community education and awareness activities to encourage people to play a proactive role in protecting the environment. It organizes beach cleaning campaigns and teaches waste recycling to reduce pollution. Biosfera also intervenes directly in fishing areas and encourages respect for the rules of responsible fishing.

Our support

We support Biosfera in its project for the conservation and sustainability of coral communities on the beaches of Baia das Gatas and Laginha. These areas, which are home to great coastal biodiversity, are being degraded by anthropogenic actions such as coral trampling, fishing, chemicals and plastic dumped into the sea, which destroy coral reefs. To protect these areas, the association will create a scientific training program for the monitoring and conservation of marine biodiversity. Freediving courses, scuba diving, theoretical and practical workshops will be offered to university students. To make the rest of the population aware of this phenomenon, an information and awareness program on coastal marine biodiversity will be set up through documentaries, billboards and activities organized in schools and universities.
