CREDI-ONG

CREDI-ONG is an association that has been working to preserve biodiversity in Benin through the conservation of natural resources and community awareness since 2005.

CREDI ONG

The Regional Center for Research and Education for Integrated Development (CREDI-ONG) works in three areas: the promotion of sustainable agriculture, education about global citizenship and environmental protection. To achieve this, the association carries out many reforestation, waste management and environmental education projects, and develops environmentally-friendly agricultural practices.

CREDI-ONG initiated the creation of the Sitatunga Valley Reserve, in the south of Benin, which covers over 16,000 hectares of marshland and wetlands. This ecosystem is rich in biodiversity, with over 210 bird species, 64 reptile species, 47 mammal species and over 400 plant species. Several of these species are threatened and included on the IUCN Red List. However, this biological reserve is increasingly threatened due to population growth, urbanization, agricultural intensification and land grabbing.

Our support

We support CREDI-ONG in its project to improve biodiversity monitoring and raise eco-citizen awareness in the Sitatunga Valley. This project aims to strengthen the ecological monitoring system of the Natural Park in order to preserve the biodiversity of this ecosystem more effectively. A scientific approach to map areas and identify animal and plant species will enable the implementation of targeted conservation measures and biodiversity monitoring programs.

An awareness-raising approach will initiate a reforestation campaign in the park, with the planting of at least 1,000 seedlings to help regulate the microclimate. In addition, at least six sports walks will be organized to mobilize the community and raise awareness about biodiversity conservation, while participating in the maintenance of new plantations through the practice of sport.
