Grassroot Initiative for Sustainable Development (GISDEV)

Grassroot Initiative for Sustainable Development (GISDEV) promotes ecosystem restoration, education and sustainable community development in Cameroon.

Grassroot Initiative for Sustainable Development,

Founded by Fantina Wudindolo, GISDEV works to protect and restore biodiversity in the Abongphen forest reserve. Since its creation, the association has been carrying out education, reforestation and sustainable economic development projects in collaboration with local communities. Conservation of the forest reserve enables the protection of many endemic species of flora and fauna, including the Nigerian and Cameroonian chimpanzee, classified as endangered on the IUCN red list (2015).

Our support

Play for Nature is supporting GISDEV in the organization of a soccer tournament in 2025, aimed at raising public awareness of the need to protect the biodiversity of the Abongphen forest. The project brings together four sports clubs and two schools, while actively involving local communities. A nursery of 5,000 seedlings will be established to encourage reforestation, and sustainable economic activities such as honey production will be developed.

Play for Nature helps finance the rental of the sports field, the salaries of the project coordinator and referees, as well as sports and beekeeping equipment. It also covers training workshops, logistics and transport, and the printing of communication media. This support is helping to raise the awareness of 2,000 people directly and 5,000 indirectly, while ensuring the sustainability of conservation efforts through the involvement of local communities and partnerships with local players.
