The slow loris, a species classified as endangered on the IUCN red list (2015), faces numerous threats, such as deforestation, the illegal pet trade, and poaching. In Indonesia, these pressures are endangering slow loris populations and the balance of the ecosystems they inhabit. The Kukang Rescue Program is committed to preserving this species through scientific research based on population monitoring using photo traps and field surveys. At the same time, the association trains local communities in sustainable agricultural practices and organizes community patrols to combat poaching, thus contributing to the protection of natural habitats and local economic development.
Play for Nature supports The Kukang Rescue Program in its slow loris conservation project. This project includes estimating the number of individuals using photo traps and direct trace surveys, as well as setting up community patrols to protect the species from poaching. In addition, local populations receive training in agroforestry to help them adopt more sustainable economic practices.
Play for Nature funding supports these essential activities by funding agroforestry training, anti-poaching patrols and awareness campaigns. This support helps to mobilize local communities, while reinforcing the sustainable protection of slow lorises and their habitats.
