Participating in COP 16 Biodiversity!

From October 27 to 30, 2024, Play for Nature is taking part in COP 16 Biodiversity, taking place in Cali, Colombia. This international event brings together major players committed to protecting biodiversity, offering an exceptional platform for highlighting innovative initiatives.

When sport teams up with nature

On October 28, Play for Nature, in partnership with Expertise France and IUCN Sports for Nature, hosted a session dedicated to the interaction between sport and conservation.

This highlight of COP 16 highlighted the potential of sport to advance the protection of biodiversity and the fight against the ecological crisis. We shared concrete examples of the use of sport by biodiversity protection associations as a tool for raising awareness among local populations. We also made the link with the world of sport and the possibility for structures to be supported in integrating sustainable practices by eco-responsible labels such as Fair Play for Planet.

The role of sport in protecting biodiversity

Play for Nature’s participation in COP 16 is fully in line with its mission to raise awareness through sport.

Its Biodiv’Sport program, which has already supported several initiatives around the world, proves that sport can be a powerful vector for change. By encouraging sporting events that promote conservation, Play for Nature not only helps preserve biodiversity, but also mobilizes entire communities around this crucial issue. The interaction between sport and nature, which the endowment fund promotes, was also illustrated by a convivial sporting activity offering a further demonstration of this unique synergy.

A key event

On October 28, Play for Nature had the opportunity to present the work carried out as part of Expertise France’s Post-2020 Project.

The report co-authored by Expertise France and IUCN’s Sports for Nature entitled “From fields to forests: the role of sport in protecting biodiversity” explores in depth how sport can become a lever for action to raise public awareness and mobilize resources for ecosystem conservation. This sharing session was also an opportunity to strengthen synergies between sport and environment players, highlighting actions already undertaken and future prospects for an even stronger alliance between these two worlds. The recording of the event is available here.
